Out of the Darkness Community Walks

Team “Star Stuff” is participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Annapolis on September 28th. As part of this, we are raising funds for AFSP.

AFSP is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

There are many ways to support the team and AFSP!

1. Order a t-shirt or sweatshirt!

We are selling shirts through AFSP partner Bonfire. All proceeds go to AFSP!

2. Join our Annapolis team or participate in another Out of the Darkness Community Walk.

You can join team “Star Stuff” and walk with us on September 28th; there is no fundraising requirement to participate. If you don’t live near Annapolis, there are walks all across the country you can join: afsp.org/walk.

3. Donate directly to our AFSP team fundraising efforts.

AFSP funds groundbreaking suicide research, laying the foundation for the most important findings in the field. Through its 28,000 voluntary Field Advocates, AFSP is leading the way in mental health and suicide prevention advocacy with over 50 state laws and 13 major federal policies being enacted into legislation in the last few years alone. Eventually I plan to become an AFSP volunteer (I’m not quite ready for that kind of direct work just yet). And although we are still very much struggling with everything that has happened, I was drawn to AFSP and the Out of the Darkness walks because community is everything and I know that moving my body (walking, running) is really important to health and wellbeing.
